Cadets

There have been previous posts about my involvement with our church cadet club. Last summer I was a campout counselor for several days. This is my third year as a counselor for our Covenant Reformed Church club and fifth year overall.

This year my cadets built model rockets. It was my first time as well. To be honest, I was skeptical that they would fly. But to my amazement they did and did they ever. Last night we flew them at our last meeting of the season and it was a semi-hazy night and our little rockets flew out of sight to the naked eye. They did come back however and we flew one three times before the night was over. Something about smoke and hearing the rocket take off can excite the boy in most any man.

The below pictures are of the two cadets in my cadre. Chu and Lance. Chu's rocket is in the video. Lance's rocket has a tilt to the launching pad because the first couple launches were flown straight up but the slight breeze flew them over the church hence tilting the table. The last lauch we had it perfected and the rocket landed within one hundred feet of the launching pad after flying three to four hundred feet in the air.

Spring is Coming!

Finally, it feels like spring is on the way. Although, I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much because chances are that it will snow at least one more time before warmer weather is here to stay. Right now I'm on Spring Break from school and I'm just spending time with Rebecca at home and getting a few things done.

She had her 6 month check-up on Tuesday and is growing great:) She weighs 16 pounds and 1 ounce and is 27 inches long. She has made very little effort to learn how to crawl because she hates being on her tummy, but she loves to sit up and is very sturdy. When her doctor saw how well she sits and stands she thought she might be an early walker - we'll have to wait and see.

Our basement is getting very close to being done!! Dan and his friend Scott have worked on it almost every night for the last 2 weeks and they have come a long way. The ceiling is finished and almost all of the trim is in place. There are still a few doors to stain (which is my job) and then we need to pick out carpeting. I'm so excited to have it finished and be able to play down there with Rebecca this summer.

Another thing I love about our basement is that it is a walk out and we can go right outside and play in the "soon to be" green grass. Yesterday we put up Rebecca's new swing and she seemed to really enjoy it! Hopefully we can get outside again today for a little fresh air and sunshine.

It's hard to capture her great big smile of delight when the swing is in motion :)

Happy Birthday to my sibs Grace and David. Hope you have a great one!

Just for Fun

Here are just a few pictures and a video of Rebecca just being herself. Her latest craze is putting her feet in her mouth. It's pretty funny, but can make changing a diaper a little more challenging.
As always, Rebecca loves bath time. She loves sucking the water out of her washcloth and in my attempt to limit the amount of bath water she drinks, I gave her the shampoo container to play with. That went well until she started to put it and soap bubbles in her mouth also. We might have to find some good bath toys, although no matter what it is she will still try and put it in her mouth!
Last, here is a great, big, wet kiss!
